Course Overview
This course will help make your digital products and services accessible for all, improving the experience for all users, as well as ensuring that individuals with disabilities can gain equal access.
Learning about digital accessibility can be daunting when faced with an array of legal, technical and medical guidance.
What you will learn
- The legal, moral and commercial case for ensuring websites, apps and documents are accessible to all;
- How people with disabilities use assistive technology or customise their experience in order to access digital products and services;
- Introduction to the principles of digital accessibility and the international standards used to assess if content will be accessible to all users.
If you are new to the field of digital accessibility, we recommend you attend this course to familiarise yourself with these general principles first.
This course can also act as an introduction to accessibility for people considering studying for the IAAP CPACC qualification.
Attendees will receive a link to the recording of the training to watch back at your leisure after the event. (And you’ll always have access to the latest advice as we will update the content on the link when the training is repeated in the future.)
Meet your trainer - Jamie Gaskell
Jamie is an Accessibility & Usability Consultant at AbilityNet.
Working in the role for a year and volunteering with AbilityNet for a further 3 years.
He is a certified professional and web accessibility with the International Association of Accessibility, professionals, meaning.
He has successfully passed with the certified professional inaccessibility, core competencies, and the web accessibility specialist exams. He also holds a degree in geography.
His role involves providing in-depth consultancy to a wide range of organizations on the web and mobile accessibility. This includes carrying out accessibility, audits, design reviews and diverse user testing.
In his spare time to enjoy volunteering with AbilityNet providing IT support for older and disabled people, hillwalking and video games.
