Innovation at CSUN Assistive Technology Conference, 2023

The CSUN Assistive Technology Conference is an event for researchers, practitioners, exhibitors, end users, speakers and other participants to share knowledge and best practices in the field of assistive technology. 2023 saw its 38th annual event take place, which was attended by accessibility experts, advocates, people with disabilities, governments and businesses.

Shilpi Kapoor, Founder of BarrierBreak, shared her insights of the event with IAAP Network and Learn attendees, "one of the coolest things I saw this year was a robot by Sony that's actually a dog which you can pair and teach tricks. It's great for companionship and for those with allergies who may not want to get a real dog. You see innovations across the board, for example the first time I saw Be My Eyes was at CSUN. You also have the new age kids at CSUN like a Braille teaching device called Annie."

Shilpi continued, "I think this year what was really outstanding was the number of people who have joined the accessibility world, and the number of first-timers you could see, people who had never been to the conference, so it just tells you that our field is growing."
