Please read before applying
- Volunteers must be aged 18 or over.
- We require two character references, one of which must be UK workplace-related.
- We welcome volunteer applications from individuals who have been UK residents for at least 24 months. This requirement helps us ensure a level of stability and continuity within our volunteer team, and it also enables us to carry out the necessary background checks and safeguarding procedures effectively. By prioritising long-term residents, we aim to build a reliable and secure environment for both our volunteers and the communities we serve. This is non-negotiable.
- Because the nature of the work involves contact with vulnerable people, all successful applicants will be subject to an Enhanced Adult Disclosure check by Disclosure and Barring Service (England and Wales), Volunteer Scotland (PVG), or Access NI ( Northern Ireland).
- We will not proceed with applications where the request is for providing remote access support only (either in the UK or abroad). The reason is that the vast majority of our volunteers can already provide remote support as well as in-home support, so there is no requirement for non-specialised remote support applications. The only exception to this is where the applicant has specific and verifiable user knowledge of specialist accessibility software such as JAWS, NVDA, Dragon, etc. In this instance we ask you to first email us before making an application.
- AbilityNet will not support or otherwise engage in providing a Certificate of Sponsorship under the Charity Worker Route for non-UK Citizens.
- We take your personal privacy very seriously. We will never share your details with anyone else.
