Accessibility Confident Accreditation
AbilityNet's Accessibility Confident Accreditation shows customers that you are committed to digital accessibility. It recognises the maturity of an organisation’s accessibility programme and is assessed by our expert team, using our Digital Accessibility Maturity Model (DAMM).
To obtain accreditation, organisations work with our expert consultants to conduct an assessment of their policies and practices across the dimensions of the DAMM. This not a test of your websites or apps - this is an assessment of how well you have embedded digital accessibility in business as usual.
About Accessibility Confident Accreditation
Being Accessibility Confident shows that your organisation has a clear vision for digital accessibility and is taking a systematic approach to ensure that its digital products and services will meet the needs of the widest audience.
Our consultants conduct an assessment using the five dimensions of AbilityNet's DAMM:
Vision
- What are your goals and objectives for digital accessibility? Do you have a clear vision of how digital accessibility aligns with and delivers the business goals of your organisation?
Leadership
- Do you have commitment and involvement of senior leadership to drive the accessibility agenda? Do you have the budgets, priorities and accountability for accessibility outcomes?
Processes
- How well have you embedded digital accessibility into your processes and workflows? Have your teams adopted accessibility standards and best practices at every stage of every project lifecycle?
Capability
- Do you have the people, tools, and resources to support accessibility efforts? Do all of your people have the skills and knowledge they need to fulfill your vision?
Procurement
- Are your internal systems and third-party plug-ins an obstacle to achieving your vision? Do you have accessibility requirements in your procurement policies and contracts? How do you evaluate the accessibility claims of your suppliers?
How it works
We provide you with a comprehensive self-assessment survey and ask for evidence of your current practices. We review your assessment and then meet to review the details submitted. We'll discuss what we've found and may ask for clarification and further details if required.
We'll then propose which level to Award, subject to a final consultation with your team.
The five levels we can Award are:
- Accessibility Starter
- Accessibility Aware
- Accessibility Confident
- Accessibility Champion
- Accessibility Leader
As well as a badge to display on your website we also provide a summary report of our findings, and highlight actions to help you improve your Award.
Accessibility Confident is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. We will send details of the follow up assessment after 10 months.
Please note: Accessibility Confident does NOT include any testing of your websites or apps. To be Accessibility Confident we expect you to be conducting tests as part of your processes, so we will ask for recent test results and evidence that you have acted on the findings.
