Accessibility Confidence Accreditation
AbilityNet's Accessibility Confidence Accreditation shows customers that you are committed to digital accessibility. It recognises the maturity of an organisation’s accessibility programme and is assessed based on the levels of AbilityNet’s Digital Accessibility Maturity Model (DAMM).
To obtain accreditation, organisations work with our expert consultants to undergo a benchmarking exercise and provide information and examples to evidence the maturity of their policies and practices across the dimensions of the DAMM.
About Accessibility Confidence Accreditation
The AbilityNet Accessibility Confidence Accreditation demonstrates an organisation has a clear vision for digital accessibility and has taken a strategic and systematic approach to embedding best practices into its policies and processes to ensure that its digital provision will meet the needs of the widest audience.
The assessment process for accreditation involves assessing an organisation's maturity against the 5 dimensions of AbilityNet's DAMM which are:
- Vision: This dimension focuses on the organisation's long-term goals and objectives for digital accessibility. It includes the development of a clear accessibility vision and strategy that aligns with the overall business goals.
- Leadership: This dimension assesses the commitment and involvement of senior leadership in driving the accessibility agenda. It includes the allocation of resources, setting of priorities, and the establishment of accountability for accessibility outcomes.
- Processes: This dimension evaluates the integration of accessibility into the organisation's processes and workflows. It includes the adoption of accessibility standards, guidelines, and best practices throughout the project development lifecycle.
- Capability: This dimension measures the organisation's ability to deliver accessible digital products and services. It includes the availability of training, tools, and resources to support accessibility efforts, as well as the skills and knowledge of the staff.
- Procurement: This dimension examines the organisation's approach to procuring accessible digital products and services. It includes the incorporation of accessibility requirements into procurement policies and contracts, as well as the evaluation of suppliers' accessibility capabilities.
The assessment process for accreditation evaluates the resourcing of the programme, the training and tools made available and how 3rd party digital tools are assessed for accessibility through the procurement process. It interrogates the internal tools, processes and policies of the organisation for digital project accessibility governance and quality assurance.
Following assessment a maturity levels is identified and awarded:
- Accessibility Starter
- Accessibility Aware
- Accessibility Confident
- Accessibility Leader
- Accessibility Champion
Accessibility accrediation is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. To ensure your exemplary accessibility commitment is maintained, we recommend a repeat assessment after 12 months.
