Please note: In response to Covid-19, Student Finance England has announced that it is possible for students to access their DSA Needs Assessment remotely. AbilityNet has run video-based online assessments in workplace and education settings for some time and can provide a full service online. Please mention your preference - online or in person - when you book your DSA Needs Assessment.

The front of Chelmsford DSA centre "Felt very comfortable and reassured by the assessor.  He was happy to go through everything with me, gave me advice, gave me opportunities to take a break and ask questions. My assessor was very knowledgeable and professional. Thank you." - Kieran

What happens during a Needs Assessment?

Some people will be concerned that an assessment is a test of some kind - relax and rest assured it's more like a friendly chat. You've already been approved for funding and the assessor is there as an independent expert - there to advise you and make recommendations that will help you to succeed.

Our assessor will use their skills and knowledge to explain the equipment and other resources available to help you and you may even be given the chance to test out some of the equipment. If you'd like to know more about what to expect read our blog about what happens during a Needs Assessment.
